Day 21

Today I had a tour to Pachacamac.  An archeological site with pyramids.  We walked up to the top of the pyramid of the sun.  The one side faces the ocean with cubbies for offerings. What a beautiful view of the ocean.  The whole area is a desert.  So much sand and quite a few walls for the city were discovered as well as tombs.  The top was flat and with a cool breeze off the coast.  You could just imagine after working hard in the sun and dirt how nice it would be to sit up top.  But be careful who invites you.  The pyramid was used for human sacrifice as well.  the site dates back to 300ad.  Next to the site was a group of housing that I do not see lasting that long.

Finally got to see a Peruvian dog.  Fairly ugly, no hair or fur and the skin looked scratched.  But they also had some llamas you could see up close.  Can't leave Peru without seeing a llama.  Next to llamas was a cage of guinea pigs.  They are not pets here,  but maybe this group is kept for tourist to see.   Took the Mirabus double decker bus to get there.  I really like riding atop the bus.

Apparently we had an earthquake, or really just a tremor but I completely missed it.  Darn, I've never been in an earth tremor.  They happen here all the time. But they have no hurricanes, tornadoes, the weather is rather temperate year round.

After the tour we had lunch at Lucha's Sangucheria.  OMG. Good thing I tried this last. Mi would have been there every day.  I had a sandwich called the Lucha.  Grilled steak, cheese on some of the best bread I've ever eaten.  The French fries are red potatoes with a variety of sauces.  Yes I definitely would have been putting on some weight if I had known about this place.  I knew it would be good because every time I passed it there was a line.

It doesn't rain here as much as it drizzles.  I visited another students home and she had an open roof top for one of the rooms.  No concern for the house being flooded because it doesn't rain that much.  A friend of hers picked us up and we went to e Larco Museo.  Very nice small museum with ancient jewelry, textiles and pottery.  Also below they have the erotic pottery display .  Vessels for wine or water with a man and god, or animals or a woman in compromising positions.  These were not made to titillate the senses but had religious overtones.  Or at least that is what the sign said.

After Larco Museo we all took a taxi back to her place and I continued in the taxi alone to my place.  After we were on the road she asked if I wanted to wait and call another taxi because the one we were in was not registered.  So I found myself in one of e dreaded potentially dangerous taxis.  But I decided to risk it, because I knew where I was going.  If he started going the wrong way there are plenty of opportunities to jump out of the cab at lights and traffic.  So I stayed vigilant that he stayed the course and made it home safe!

Early bed because taxi in the morning coming at 6 am.  And you all know how I don't do mornings!  But Ted you will be proud to know I packed before I went to bed!
